Once again it’s been a while since we posted a guest mix here, but rest assured we like to seek out quality over quantity, and that’s certainly the case here as Barcelona’s chief exponent of Rhythm & Blues picks out just over an hour of lesser known diamonds. By way of introduction, here’s some words from the man himself:
Hi, I’m Alfonso from Barcelona, though many people know me as fonsoul. I’ve been collecting records for almost my entire life, focusing in the last two decades on afro american music mostly – from the early 50s until the late 70s. I dig many styles, r&b, r’n’r, soul, funk, latin, jamaican, etc., always try to look for new stuff (to me). I host a small club in my hometown with my mate Tof, the Double Cookin’, where our musical policy is mainly showing each other our monthly new (for us) discoveries.
Over the years I ve been fortunate enough to be called to spin my records in many clubs and rallies in my country and abroad. In general I try to mix known classics with the little known and many times weird sounds. The feedback is positive so far. I also had a youtube channel for the last five years, where I posted some of my records. It was recently closed due to copyright issues, but I don’t give up – I already opened a new one. Hopefully soon it will look as the old one was.
In the mix I focused mostly in r&b from late 50s till late 60s, almost entirely little known or overlooked tunes. Which is not always easy – I mean, an unknown tune may easily be a shitty unknown tune. I hope the ones here are not and you enjoy listening!
